2025 Featured Artist Kaylyn Hileman

I’m Kaylyn, a passionate artist who finds joy in capturing the beauty of nature through my paintings. My work often reflects the whimsical spirit of childhood, drawing inspiration from the simple joys that surround us. Lately, I’ve been enjoying pencil drawings, bringing imaginative characters to life and infusing them with personality. This playful approach also extends to my crafting, where I love exploring different mediums and techniques to bring my artistic visions to reality.

For the past three years, I’ve proudly exhibited my work in the Additional Needs Art Contest, sharing my creativity and dedication with the art community. Right now, I’m studying art in school, expanding my skills, and experimenting with different styles—including mastering specific perspectives in my drawings.

I hope that when people experience my art, they feel a sense of peace and connection to the natural world. Through my creations, I invite others to embrace the tranquility and wonder that inspire me every day.

Building Confidence and Self-Advocacy
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kaylyn’s brother’s ABA Center supported working families by assisting siblings with virtual school. It was through this experience that we discovered Kaylyn had Autism. After receiving her diagnosis at age 8, Kaylyn began ABA therapy at ABA Results, the same center where her brother attended. The therapy helped her finish elementary school by offering both support and a platform for her education through Lee Virtual School. Additionally, she received Speech Therapy from SWFL Speech Therapy Services, focusing on improving her voice volume and other verbal skills. Throughout this journey, Kaylyn made significant strides in her social skills. This year, she found the courage to return to public school for 6th grade.

Every piece tells a story of courage, expression, and the belief that art truly knows no bounds.

A Path to Building Friendships and Body-Positive Experiences
Dance provides Kaylyn with a creative outlet, both in her school environment and as part of a competitive dance team at her studio. It allows her to connect with other kids who share her passion for dancing. While the sensory overload of the dance world can sometimes be overwhelming for Kaylyn, she truly loves performing and expressing herself on stage.

“As a dancer with autism there are many random thoughts that go through my head while on stage. I may look cool and collected on the outside but on the inside there is a lot going on. I love the energy of performing and feel that everyone should do whatever their heart desires.” Kaylyn                          Choreography by Misty Christopher from Dance Dimensions of SW Florida.
