Out of the blue this morning, our son came up to me and said, “Daddy, take a picture with me.” This was a first for our son requesting his picture to be taken.  It warmed not only my heart but his mom’s heart as well. The reason ANI is sharing this is because we want parents to keep searching for the correct resources and tools to assist their child in reaching their full potential. For years individuals would tell us that our son was having difficulty speaking because he is with Down syndrome and nothing else. We have had him in speech therapy from the start and didn’t see much progress. We have not been afraid to change therapists or resources if we believed our son has the ability to move forward with assistance. So we changed therapists and that is when we got the diagnosis that our son also is with Apraxia. After that the pieces started to fall into place and now our son is verbally telling us what he wants. This did not happen overnight but it is happening. Parents, keep searching, advocating and believing in your child. The resources and tools are out there and all of us at Additional Needs, Inc. are searching all over the world to bring them to you.
