I heard about the Lighthouse from several folks for a number of years but I never started going. I finally made the decision to go after the fourth person told me about it and how it helped him.
I have advanced glaucoma which has made me blind in one eye and with “low vision” in the other. After I got the diagnosis, I kept thinking there must be a support group around where I can discuss my situation with others in the same situation. After I decided to go to the Lighthouse, I found that it was just the exact place to be because even though there are folks there with all types of diagnoses, collectively, we are all “in the same boat”.
Lighthouse has taught me the tools to use to be as independent as possible but also not to be afraid to ask for help if you need it. It’s ok and most people will be glad to give you a hand.
I have been going to Lighthouse for nearly a year and it’s the best decision for myself I have ever made.
