We believe parents and professionals working together provide the best outcomes for their children and informed parents make the best choices for their families. It is far better to be collaborative and proactive than adversarial and reactive.
Our goal is to improve the quality of life and individual outcomes for persons with disabilities of all ages. South Florida Parent Center is a pioneer for its strong role in sharing with all parents practical disability resources and skills that they need to work collaboratively with the leaders of any school for the sake of their children. We focus on helping the following clients to navigate the disability system professionally. They are parents of children with disabilities of all ages, self-advocates, adults, elders, and people at risk with their families.
To support parents in this process, the School District of Collier County’s Exceptional Student Education (ESE) department contracts with South Florida Parent Center to assist you with training in the disability areas of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, information about parent rights, technical assistance and support with understanding identification/evaluation, and the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) and Transition process. To learn more about this organization’s mission, please contact Wilbur Hawke, Parent Liaison at (239) 417-3636 or via wilbur@sfptic.org.

Please check out the section below to start learning about some great disability educational resources to advocate for your family. Or, just navigate to the following pages: Our Workshops, Disability Resources, and Fathers Faces, etc. It is also helpful to learn the stories of courageous parents who have advocated for their kids successfully regardless of the type of obstacles (lack of disability educational resources, the denial of implementation of disability services, and the lack of professional disability advocates from many institutions, etc) they have faced a couple of decade ago. Your advocacy voice can make a huge difference in the life of your family and other families as well on a daily basis. That is true!
