💡 About Exceptional Nights

Exceptional Nights are specially designed evenings at CMON for children with:

• Physical and/or neurological disabilities

• Autism

• Sensory integration disorders

During these events, lighting and sounds are muted, cool-down spaces are available, and participation is limited to ensure a calm, welcoming environment. Families are encouraged to attend together, making the evening both educational and enjoyable for children of all abilities.

The goal is to provide an accessible, inclusive museum experience where children can:

• Explore hands-on exhibits at their own pace

• Connect with community resources

• Enjoy a safe, engaging space tailored to their needs

🌈 Why It Matters

Children’s museums are neutral, inclusive spaces where kids can:

• Learn through interactive play

• Explore new concepts in a non-threatening way

• Share experiences that bridge understanding across differences

By creating sensory-friendly, accessible events, CMON ensures that every child has the chance to experience discovery, joy, and learning in a safe and supportive environment.

✨ About Discovery Nights at CMON

In addition to Exceptional Nights, CMON also hosts Discovery Nights—private, secure evenings for children in:

• Foster care

• Shelters

• Situations involving trauma

These children face unique challenges and often long for a sense of normalcy. Discovery Nights offer them:

• Private, safe evenings of play when the museum is closed to the public

• Educational enrichment to help close learning gaps

• A chance to just be kids in a supportive, joyful environment

Discovery Nights are made possible through partnerships with agencies that serve these children, and are offered at no cost to them or their chaperones.
