Exceptional Student Education Sharing the Commitment

Overview

About the Organization

Exceptional Student Education: Sharing the commitment is a collaborative advisory that has been created to foster effective partnerships between parents, schools, & the community.
Sharing the Commitment wants to make a difference in the education of all children. Through your participation, you will have the opportunity to gain knowledge & skills necessary to become more comfortable in your role as a partner in the education process. Sharing the Commitment offers parent education in special education instruction, related services, transition, behavior, District practices & dispute resolution.

What Is a Peer Parent?

A peer parent is someone who uses their own journey—whether navigating school systems or overcoming parenting challenges—to support other families. Acting as empathetic guides, coaches, and advocates, they foster community and enhance family engagement in schools.

Peer parents are trusted mentors whose lived experiences empower other families. Through emotional support, information-sharing, advocacy, and one-on-one mentorship, they help transform K–12 education into a more inclusive, informed, and community-driven experience for parents, students, and schools alike .

ANI is especially proud to highlight that Cynthia Sharpe volunteers as a dedicated Peer Parent with Collier County Public Schools. Drawing on her firsthand experience raising a child with additional needs, she offers empathetic guidance, advocacy, and practical support to families navigating school services.
