Jack Sharpe, affectionately known as “Treble J,” has become a beacon of resilience and inspiration through his show, SharpeLivin’. His journey, marked by determination and unwavering family support, underscores the profound impact of perseverance in overcoming challenges.
Born with Down syndrome and apraxia—a speech disorder affecting speech sequencing—Jack faced significant communication hurdles early in life. His parents, Doug and Cynthia, were steadfast in seeking innovative avenues to aid his self-expression. Their quest led them to NEWHD Media, an organization dedicated to providing media industry opportunities for individuals with additional needs and disabled veterans. Recognizing Jack’s enthusiasm for music, they facilitated his involvement with NEWHD, leading to the inception of SharpeLivin’, a radio show hosted by Jack himself.
Airing on Sunday mornings, SharpeLivin’ showcased Jack—dubbed “Treble J”—sharing his favorite classic rock tracks from bands like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and U2. The show not only amplified Jack’s love for music but also served as a therapeutic platform, enhancing his communication skills and boosting his confidence.
Jack’s inspiring journey caught the attention of ABC News, leading to a feature segment where Jack and his parents discussed the origins of SharpeLivin‘ and their mission to highlight the capabilities of individuals with Down syndrome. In the interview, Jack’s passion and dedication resonated deeply, reinforcing the message that with determination and support, challenges can be transformed into opportunities.
In 2023, SharpeLivin’ transitioned from radio to video, broadening its reach and allowing Jack’s vibrant personality to shine even brighter. This evolution provided audiences with a more immersive experience, further showcasing Jack’s unique perspective and talents.
Jack’s story was also featured by NBC 2 News’ “Stories2Share,” highlighting his growth, determination, and the positive impact of SharpeLivin’ on the community. Through these platforms, Jack continues to inspire countless individuals, demonstrating that with perseverance and creativity, obstacles can be overcome.
